How does Robinsons international removals service to the USA work?

There are a few different ways of exporting household items to America, which vary in price and speed. Robinsons offer an international removals service that will meet you budget, whether it be via:

Groupage

Groupage removal is where your items share a shipping container with other movers’ items and you all share the cost of it. This is generally the cheapest type of removals to the USA.

Full container load

This is where you have your own shipping container. You can fill this container to the brim, so this method is useful if you have a lot of items.

Air freight

If your removal needs are urgent, then air fright is the perfect solution.

As there is no universal healthcare provided in the USA, you will need to subscribe to a private health insurance either directly or through your employer sponsored programme.  The USA Government website has a comprehensive section about health insurance, including government programmes.  There are many health insurance providers, so start by visiting a site comparison like eHealth to guide you through your options.

FAQs - Removals To America

What Items Can’t Be Taken With Me To The USA?

Information on USA customs and import law changes constantly, and also differ depending on state and federal law, so the list of prohibited items that can’t be taken with you will be different for each move.

Some items, such as food, need to obtain pre-clearance before being shipped to the USA and some, such as alcohol, require a full inventory.

What Can I Do With The Things I Can’t Take To America?

We offer secure storage facilities for things you may have to leave at home. This includes alcohol – any shipment arriving at a US port containing foodstuff requires pre-clearance.

Even with a pre-clearance, you’ll need a comprehensive inventory for wine and alcohol, so our advice is that unless it’s something you can’t be without, you might be best to leave it in the UK.
